Conwy in North Wales was a little discovery for us this summer. It is around a three hour drive from us in landlocked Nottingham and offered a fantastic escape to the seaside and countryside in one.
We stayed at the YHA located at above the town overlooking the harbour on one side and mountains on the other, Just a five minute walk down the hill and you are at the city walls.
Conwy is a really compact litle place with some great pubs and shops (hardly a chain store in sight!) as well as lots of character and charm. It has a stunning castle and beautiful harbour and is perfectly placed to explore North Wales and Angelsey.
It is also home to the Smallest House in Great Britain which was last inhabited by a fisherman who stood at over 6 foot!
So what did we do there?
Obviously some beach action was essential and as we had such lovely weather we went to a beach in Conwy (recommended by YHA staff) that was close the the Marina (nice pub there!). This is more of an estuary for the River Conwy but the boys still managed some swimming and even cricket!
The next day we headed to Anglesey to try out the famously beautiful beaches there and found ourselves in Rhosneigr where we had a yummy brunch at Mojo’s Creperie and then hit the dunes.
North Wales is also home to three Zipworld locations – in the forest, quarry and caves! Perfect for adventure and thrill seekers.
Gary and Ethan tested their nere on Velocity 2 which is the world’s fastest zipline.
Noah and I tried out the slightly more sedate but still pretty cool Bounce below which in trampolines at different heights, accessed by ladders and slides, within a cavern!
Mount Snowdon is the highest peak in England and Wales and following the Ranger footpath the boys made it to the very top! So impressed with them!!!
What are your highlights of Wales? We will definitely be back so would love to hear!
