Shooting shorts with Stikbots! @stikbots  - My Gorgeous Boys Blog

Have you heard of Stikbots!? They are dubbed the world’s first social media toy!

They mimic human movement so you can make them do whatever you want them to – the only limit is your imagination! The figures are available in a variety of colours bendable (elastic bands through plastic) arms and legs and suction cup feet and hands, so they can strike a pose however you choose. They cost around £4 each and are purchasable from places like Smyths Toys.

All you do is download the free Stikbot app to your phone or tablet and away you go creating stop motion movies whatever inspires you. We used an iPhone 6 and downloaded the app from the App Store.

The boys love creating little movies with their toys, particularly Lego, so I knew that they would love to have fun with these. We also had fun using stop-motion software at the National Media Museum in Bradford.

The app takes a little getting used to but after some time of playing with it we thought that the software was great. We did find it a little tricky to hold the figures in positions as they kept snapping back.

With a little help from Daddy here is our little movie….. we couldn’t work out how to add sound but I think this would be a good addition.

Don’t forget to use a tripod to place your smart phone or tablet on for the recording to keep the picture steady.

You can also use your laptop to create a background for the Stikbot to have an adventure in or you can purchase the Stikbot Studio with green screen background (£14) to transport your Stikbot anywhere!

Stikbots are fun and versatile and perfect to bring to life your child’s imagination and creativity. They are really not much different to a Lego figure but for the price tag they are definitely worth giving a go with the brilliant app which is free. They are best suited for children age 9+.

What do you think to these little creatures? Is this a toy that would capture the imagination of your children?
