This post is an entry for BritMums ‘What’s for Dinner Tonight?’ sponsored by Schwartz. Find out more about the new 2in1 mixes here.
With kids it is very easy to get stuck into a routine of boring safe meals that are easy to prepare and you know the children will eat. They can be a bit samey and bland after a while and I am always on the look out for new recipe ideas to try out. The boys are quite adventurous with food and are both very good eaters so luckily they will try most things.
We were sent some of Schwartz new 2 in 1 range of recipe mix sachets to try out.
They are a fantastic way to add a new twist to family favourites and transform dinner time into master cuisine! They consist of two sachets, one containing seasoning for the main dish and the second for a complementary side dish or topping.
The first one we sampled was the Garlic and Thyme Roast Chicken and Crispy Roast Potatoes.
Even though the boys had eaten a dinner at lunchtime at school and nursery they still manage to eat another cooked dinner in the evening. Growing children eh!
You mix the seasoning for the chicken with a little oil and paint it over the uncooked chicken before covering with foil and placing it in the oven.
The kitchen smelt divine whilst the chicken was cooking! If only we had aroma-web your taste buds would be tingling.
After 35 minutes of the chicken cooking I parboiled the potatoes and put the oil into a separate roasting dish to heat through. After 10 minutes I drained the potatoes and added them to the sizzling oil. I then coated the potatoes with their recipe sachet and returned this to the oven for a further 45 minutes.
It was very easy to do and the timing on the packet are really helpful for making sure you can plan the preparation of your meal without too much hassle. I used the timer on my mobile phone for the first time to make sure that I was following the recipe correctly and it worked a treat! It also meant I could get on with other things until the beep went!
It was all timed and cooked to perfection.
My Auntie was visiting so we needed dinner for 5 (3 adults and 2 children aged 4 and 6). The packet did just the right amount for us all. Five empty plates at the end of the meal!
It actually tastes like there is a huge amount of salt in the dish as it is so tasty, but a 290g serving is only 9% of your daily salt allowance and you really don’t need to add any more.
Tonight we are trying out the Mediterranean Chicken Pasta!
Disclosure: We were sent two packets of Schartz recepe mix sachets to try.
