The children haven’t even broken up for the Summer holidays yet and we are thinking about “Back to School” kit already. It does help to be organised so you can make the most of the holidays and not end up rushing around buying kit at the last minute.
We go through a lot of school uniform as the boys a) grow so fast that polo shirts are soon too short and trousers too tight and they b) work hard and play hard in their uniform including lunchtime football and they rarely get changed out of their uniform after school unless they have a club to go to which necessitates a change.
So it is fair to say that uniform needs to be hard wearing, easy to wash, comfortable and look smart. Value for money is of course important.
All of the main supermarkets now stock their own line of school uniform and we have bought from them all at different times, as well as other reputable high street stores making the most of discount offers when they are on to get the best value we can.
Lidl have recently joined the supermarket ranks with their own uniform including PE kit and we were thrilled to be invited to test it out and put it through its paces!
The range includes school trousers, polo shirts, jogging trousers, tshirts, sweatshirts and vests. All the school essentials! The best thing is the price with a basic school uniform of trousers, polo shirt and sweatshirt coating just £3.65! The uniform is available for ages 4-12 years.
The school trousers are hardwearing and made from durable and easy care fabric with an adjustable waistband (which is essential! for growing children). The boys also really liked the way it fastens twice on the waistband saying it felt really comfortable. The sizing is generous and accurate. The poloshirts are 100% cotton, soft and comfortable.
The boys have worn the uniform this last week for school. The trousers have been very grass stained and muddy but no rips in the knees and the polo shirts, likewise very grubby. The items have been washed twice, both times coming out of the wash as good as new. It is handy that is can be washed on the usual 40 degree cycle and is suitable for the tumble dryer.
I was really impressed with the uniform and quite shocked at how cheap the prices are as I really think the quality is not much different to other supermarkets (and actually better than some).
I hope they add PE shorts and school shorts to their collection soon.
Lidl’s uniform goes into their stores from this Thursday, 21 July.
