The glorious September sunshine must have gone to my husband’s head as he was mad for another weekend camping (this NEVER happens!).
We are big fans of Carsington Water, which is quite close to us, in the Derbyshire Dales but have never actually camped there. There was always one site that grabbed my attention – the Pudding Room!! Yes a campsite that serves cake!
The site itself is pretty basic but it was a great location just a ten minute walk from Carsington Water (saving money on parking!) and with lots of other walks to nearby Hognaston and Knifeton available. The toilet/shower was together in its own kind of ensuite which was great for families but not so great when you only needed the loo! Especially as there were only two of them but it was fine and very clean.
The shop sold lots of delicious cakes, bread, jams, chutneys, cheeses and meats. They also did a rather delicious breakfast bap which was particuarly helpful as in our rush to get camping we had only brough half a can of gas which was quickly used up.
Carsington Water is a fantastic family day out with loads of activities to keep you busy. The only thing a family of four can do on the water is hire a rowing boat which was £15 for 30 minutes. I discovered I am actually quite good at rowing…
We also hired bikes for an hour (£7 each) and did a trail along the Dam Wall. Ethan was fantastic as he had recently learnt to ride without stabilisers!
Noah enjoyed his leisurely ride..
There is also a fab play area for kids, a coffee shop, icecream and an interactive educational area about Severn Trent water!
