The frontman of Elbow, Guy Garvey has just completed two nights playing live in our beautiful forests.

We were lucky enough to catch him at the stunning Sherwood Pines on Saturday night and what an absolute treat!

Excitement was building for me just going to the forest in the evening, just me and hubs. No children – woohoo!

Guy was supported by C Duncan, a Scottish born indie/folk singer, who is set for big things.

The clean forest air was the perfect setting for an evening of brilliant music and as C Duncan summed it up.. “It is like being at a festival without rubbish everywhere.”

After a short rain shower – it is Glastonbury weekend after all – the blue sky peeked through.

This is the first solo tour for the incredibly talented Guy Garvey and his band, an orchestra including a saxophone and trumpet.

Interspersing songs from their one and only album with tales of waking up in Sherwood Forest, after not much sleep to play archery with his best friend and fellow band member, reconnecting with old school friends and retelling childhood memories of dead rabbits, Guy kept the audience enthralled.

I saw a different side to Guy Garvey – charming and relaxed he chatted with the crowds and everyone picked up on his infectious energy clapping and clicking fingers to the harmonies.

The intimacy of the forest environment and haunting vocals created a really special moment and we all felt part of a very memorable evening.

Thank you to the Forestry Commission for  putting on these brilliant gigs providing incredible opportunities for a different (better)live music experience. The profits from these concerts gets reinvested into the maintenance and upkeep of the forest benefiting everyone.

Guy and his band are heading to Glastonbury today so if you are lucky enough to be there don’t miss them.
