Go Ape Junior has just opened at Sherwood Pines, perfect timing for the Easter holidays and spring sunshine. Go Ape, for the uninitiated, is a tree top adventure involving swinging through trees a la Tarzan and Jane or walking across swaying rope bridges).

As with the adult Go Ape (the junior course is the same height amazingly enough!), you wear a harness but this time instead of clipping on and off as you go around, you are fastened with a clip that doesn’t come off and guides you around the course. Phew!

Go Ape Junior is suitable for children aged 4+ years who are at least 1 metre in height. There isn’t an age limit though at 11 years you can go on the “big” Go Ape circuit with an adult (or 18 years without one). It is a perfect beginner course if you are unsure.

There are three different “loops” you can do.

The first loop has a guide rope to hold onto and help you across if you are a bit nervous (and who isn’t!). There are around six crossing to navigate bringing you back to a central platform where you then zip wire back to earth! The second loop has much longer walkways and no guide so is for the much braver. It brings you back to the central platform where you can go onto the 3rd loop or to the zip wire.

For the £17 price you get one hour of play amongst the trees. We did the first loop and zip wire twice and then tried out the second loop. This was a big step but we managed it and Ethan (who is 7 years old) even did it again a 2nd time on his own! Noah (who is 4 years old) wasn’t so sure and headed back to the first loop. We didn’t try the 3rd loop (save that for next time!). I think it is great that you can redo the circuits to build confidence – we were practically running the first loop by the third time around! It is brilliant that there is something for everyone and we are still left with a challenge to work towards.

The staff are amazing at motivating and reassuring the most nervous or cautious of tree top adventurers. We found that once we had conquered our fears, the fun was immense and it was a shame we had to stop! Think I am raising a pair of adrenalin junkies in training!

The boys both thought that Go Ape junior was “awesome”. The first go round was filled with a bit of trepidation but they did love it and will definitely be going back!

Linking up with country kids.

  2. […] the Skytrail at Holme Pierrepont Country Park, which was great fun. We had a fabulous time at Go Ape and though this is slightly different it is still fabulous and you get a similar adrenalin rush […]
