The theme for the Gallery this week is New and at the moment I am considering a brand new challenge!

After seven years of mainly being an “at home mum” I have decided to take the bull by the horns and apply for teacher training!

This isn’t a completely new idea; I did used to love playing schools as a kid with my siblings and dolls as my pupils and it has always been a consideration in the back of my mind along with other options.

Since the boys are now at full time school I think it is about time I did something for me and venturing back into the 9-5 world or the isolation I would feel running a business from home don’t really fill me with much joy.

I know teachers work incredibly hard and some feel they have a rough deal but overall I think if I don’t try it I will never know if it is right for me or not.

Obviously the driver behind this is the boys so theoretically I will have school holidays off and being involved in education as it is today, the curriculum and what is happening in schools will give me more of an insight into their world.

I already volunteer at the school the boys attend, but am going to look at volunteering at other schools in our area, investigate the skills tests I need to pass before staring a teaching course (eek the numeracy one looks tricky!) and get my head around the minefield of different routes into teaching, funding and courses on offer so this will keep me very busy.

So my tenuous link to this week’s theme is some old school photos of me!

Good luck with starting the teaching route, a hard road but helping children learn is so valuable. [I don’t think I have the patience, but if you are helping out in school you probably have better idea of what it is really like.]

    PS – sweet photos!
