I know it is only November but, with how fast December seems to creep up, and the whizz by Ina flurry of activities and appointments, it is important to get into the festive mood so you are prepared! I love to be prepared!

We were invited to try out the Festive menu for Cookhouse and Pub in Ripley. We have eaten at this pub before as it is conveniently located close to the M1 and the gorgeous Peak District.

We visited on a Sunday, which is always busy due to the fantastic Carvery deal they do (£20 for two adults two children it £25 for four adults). We were there though to get in the Christmas mood so, if you are a bit of a Bah Humbug Scrooge and refuse to entertain Christmas till 1 December , stop reading now!

The festive menu is available every day from now and costs £12.99 for two courses or £14.99 for three.

We launched straight into the mains!

I had the steak with bourguinion sauce that cake with chips, tomato and a deliciously creamy mushroom (worth it for this on its own!.)

As Gary is on a vegetarian diet due to a medical condition called haemachromatosis, he had the mushroom risotto which was rich enough to feel like a luxury and delicious!

Noah tried the traditional turkey, which went down very well. He loved the parsnip and carrot mash and all the green vegetables!

Finally, Ethan had the steak burger with Camembert and cranberry. It didn’t last long and there were soon empty plates all round reflecting the quality of the food.

We grabbed some crackers to get into the Christmas spirit and shared jokes, tacky toys and silly party hats!

Dessert time promised to be a treat!

I chose the gin infused truffle, which was loaded with berries and cream and very tasty!

Gary has the salted caramel profiteroles which went down very well!

Ethan tried the chocolate fondant which he described as sublime!

Finally Noah has the After Eight sundae which freshened the palette!

It was a lovely way to spend an afternoon and get the whole family feeling festive and ready for the Christmas craziness. The food was good and it was lovely to take the time out for a quality family meal.

Are you feeling festive yet?
