Have you ever been to the beautiful city of Dubrovnik in Croatia?

We visited Dubrovnik in April for a week on the Easter holidays, travelling with Jet 2Holidays. We stayed at the Royal Princess Hotel, which is situated in the seaside area of the city close to Lapad Bay.

Our room had amazing sea views and was so peaceful!

The weather was unseasonably dreary but that didn’t bother us. It was pretty warm and the hotel had indoor and outdoor pools.

This is what we got up to!

Explore the Old City

The Old City is stunningly beautiful! Starting at Pile (pronounces peela) Gate the architecture is breathtaking and you cant help but feel transformed back in time to medieval days.

You can see why this city was chosen for the filming of Game of Thrones as it captures the imagination and holds so much history and mystery!

It’s lucky to rub this guys’s nose!

You can purchase tickets to walk around the walls – we didn’t do this as just waking around the city gave us a magical experience!

There are museums and churches to look around as well as an awesome sweet shop!

The beautiful island of Lokram is easily accessible from the harbour in the Old City. It’s cost 150 kuna for each adult to take the short boat trip over to the island. You can buy an audio tour but we were happy to grab a map and explore.

The pinnacle of the island is a fort which you can wall through the botanic gardens to. This is full of unusual plants and flowers from around the world.

There is also a lagoon to swim in its its warm enough!

Cable car

The cable car is accessible just above the Old Cuty and climbs 778 metres to a plateau where you can look down into the Old City and Lokram. Check out theseviews!

Puzzle breaks Escape Room

This is fabulous! We did the Game of Thrones themed room – you didn’t need to have watched the programme but there were obviously references to it. It was linear so you had to solve one puzzle before moving on to the next. This made it easier for us to follow and not get distracted. There were puzzles that the boys at 9 and 12 years can access so it was a brilliant family bonding activity!

Sea kayaking

On the last day we tried our hand at sea kayaking!

Ethan snd I we’re in one kayak and Noah went with a guide in another.

We paddled over towards Lokram and learnt lots about the history of Dubrovnik.

We also visited a beach cave which is only accessible via boat. Ethan went snorkelling!! I have to tell you it was freezing!

Food and wine

We had some delicious meals and yummy wine! Of course Ice cream was also a highlight!

Konoba Dubrava is a restaurant located at the top of the hill. You need to order food cooked under the bell three hours in advance.

We had octopus and lamb which was delicious! It is cooked with potatoes and a few vegetables. The food has an incredible flavour kind of like slow cooked BBQ!

What were your highlights of Dubrovnik?
