Creswell Crags is a limestone gorge and cave system, located not far from junction 30 of the M1, in Worksop.
It is only around 30 minutes from us and I have wanted to visit for ages but never made it. As May Day was such a gloriously sunny day and we had vegged out in the garden quite enough over the weekend we decided a drive out would do us good!
I am so glad we did!
Ok the weather really helped but look at this amasing play area! From a distance it looks like the Serengeti! Perfect for kids who love climbing!
We then went for a walk around the lake, which is actually in a gorge with the caves along the side. There are two cave tours, each lasting around an hour. We didn’t do these but will definitely return as they look really interesting. The boys loved climbing up the rocks and peering into the recesses. They were looking for beasts and creatures I think!
Creswell Crags is also a wildlife reserve with ducks in the lake, beautiful wild flowers and lots of butterflies.
It is also an education centre with interactive exhibitions illustrating the fascinating stories.
It was a brilliant afternoon out and we hope to go back soon!
