The Summer holidays are just days away and I for one am on countdown!
No more school rush and the chance to spend quality time with the boys. Also I won’t be working though I will have work to do in preparation for teaching and my NQT year starting in September! So juggling will be involved!
Particularly as the boys get older, I cannot deny that keeping them entertained every day is challenging. They voice their opinions on where we are going and usually want it to involve their friends. Having their friends round though is a good idea as with two boys, who fight (A LOT) with each other a third or fourth person can help diffuse situations and they don’t want to embarrass themselves in front of their pal.
Inspired by other parent bloggers we set up a “challenge jar”, which is something for the boys to go to when they are bored. Noah loves it and is always in there looking for a challenge. He is a star at helping me and loves to keep busy.
Ethan however is a couch potato if I let him and will just lounge about watching TV. I can be guilyy of letting him just watch TV so I can get on with other things, but am really trying to limit this to being a treat, not just the thing to do. I do think even he gets bored of watching TV! Not that there is anything wrong with them getting bored of course! Getting bored is all part of the creative process after all!
The plan for the summer is to adapt this Daily Checklist idea so he has to do these things to earn screen time. Wish me luck with that one!
Preparation is always the key to survival!
- Having your cupboard full of things to do a spot baking if handy. If you achieve nothing else all day you will have cake to eat!
- If it is sunny go for a walk or bike ride. The boys love a bug hunt or nature trail.
If all else fails and stress level are high I pretend I am their nanny and I am getting paid squillions to look after the little darlings.
I am then the perfect parent!
What is your tip for Guerrilla parenting in the Summer holidays!? Would love to hear!
