Gosh we are having a busy holiday! It started with a great weekend at Camp Bestival then we went to the Robin Hood festival and this weekend we were camping with friends in York!

On Saturday the sun was shining and the sky blue so we headed to the biggest maze in Europe, York Maze. We lasted visited the Maze in 2009 when Noah was just a baby!

Each year the maze is created on a theme. This year, to celebrate what would have been his 100th birthday, sees Roahl Dahl taking over the theme and the maze is constructed to look like some of his best loved characters including Willy Wonka, the Crocodile and the BFG. Back in 2009 the maze had a space theme and it was great to see a display with all the previous years’ maze shapes.

In lots of ways the attraction itself hasn’t changed a great deal,  but it has certainly got bigger and more refined with good quality, unique attractions.

The Maze itself is only open for a relatively short period of time over the Summer and Halloween. Each year the maze is created in a different, topical theme. This year it was based around our favourite author Roald Dahl!

There was plenty to do at the Maze and most things are free once you have paid your entry fee.

We loved..

  • The house of cornfusion… The corny (sorry!) jokes just didn’t stop all day!
  • The snake slides
  • Pig racing- Noah’s chosen pig won do he got a pork medallion (ie medal).
  • Crowmania ride
  • Jumping Pillow
  • All the mazes – especially the main one!
  • The sand and play area
  • Water wars- this was essential on such a hot day!

There are also themed events – the day we were there was beach day and so we had a go at surfing. Our friend, Flynn, was very good at this!

York Maze is a brilliant day out for all the family. It is something a little different from the norm and there is plenty of guaranteed fun to be hand.

Have you every visited York Maze? What is your  favourite part?
